A block isn't showing
Work through these checks in order. Most missing blocks are fixed by one of the first four.
1. Is the block enabled?
Section titled “1. Is the block enabled?”On Customizations, the block’s status should be Enabled. If it says Disabled, open it and click Enable, then Save block.
2. Is it placed in the Checkout Editor, and saved?
Section titled “2. Is it placed in the Checkout Editor, and saved?”Creating a block doesn’t put it in checkout. Go to Settings → Checkout in Shopify admin, click Edit next to your active configuration, and check there’s a Checkout Buddy app block where you expect it. Then click Save in the Checkout Editor. Unsaved Checkout Editor changes don’t reach your live checkout.
Make sure you’re editing the live checkout configuration if you have more than one. See add your first block.
3. Does Fixed block ID match?
Section titled “3. Does Fixed block ID match?”In the app block’s settings, Fixed block ID (or Multiple block IDs) must contain the block’s number from the ID column on Customizations. Check for typos, and for IDs of blocks you’ve since deleted.
4. Do the display rules pass?
Section titled “4. Do the display rules pass?”Open the block and look at Display rules. Temporarily switch to Show for all orders. If the block then appears, one of the rules is the problem. Common causes:
- Money rules and currencies. Block rules compare against the amount in the customer’s currency. See markets and currencies.
- “is more than” is strict. “Cart subtotal is more than 50” doesn’t pass at exactly $50. Use 49.99.
- Rules that look at information the customer hasn’t entered yet, such as shipping country before the address is filled in.
- Customer rules for guests. Customer account exists only passes for logged-in customers.
- Rules added in one go are combined with OR, not AND. See common mistakes.
5. Is it limited to certain markets or devices?
Section titled “5. Is it limited to certain markets or devices?”- Markets: with Apply to selected markets only, customers in other markets don’t see it. Test from the right country, or use Shopify’s market preview.
- Visibility (Image and Upsell / Cross sell): with Show on selected devices only, it’s hidden on other devices.
6. Does the block have something to show?
Section titled “6. Does the block have something to show?”Some blocks hide themselves when there’s nothing to show:
- Upsell / Cross sell: every product is sold out, already in the cart, or unavailable in the customer’s market. Recommendations may return nothing, and the block also hides when the checkout doesn’t allow adding products.
- Line item upsell: the product has no subscription plans, or no complementary products.
- Progress bar: Target is empty.
- Line item text, Cart line editor, Line item upsell: not placed under the line items.
7. Is it on the right page?
Section titled “7. Is it on the right page?”The Checkout Editor places blocks per step: Information, Shipping, and Payment. A block placed on the Shipping step won’t show on Information. One-page checkouts show all sections on one page.
Thank you and order status page blocks need the Checkout Buddy - Thank You & Order Status Page app block. See thank you and order status pages.
8. Is your store on Shopify Plus?
Section titled “8. Is your store on Shopify Plus?”Blocks need Shopify Plus. If your plan changed, blocks stop showing. Development and Plus sandbox stores work.
Still not showing?
Section titled “Still not showing?”Email kyle@keylayapps.com with your store address, the block ID, and a screenshot of the app block’s settings in the Checkout Editor.
